The generation of ROS arises from a whole range of different influences with toxins and synthetic substances dominating, however they can also occur under normal physiological conditions. As a result, modern day organisms are finding it much harder to keep up, not only with the normal demands of cellular function, but with the extra demand these toxins and synthetics represent.
